Great Britain’s Olympic Team, are releasing a non-fungible token (NFT) collection to provide new ways for fans to engage during the Olympic Games.
In conjunction with the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, the United Kingdom has announced the debut of a new NFT line.
Team Great Britain has thus become the first Olympic team to develop its own set of NFTs. Tokns, a commerce service, and clothing manufacturer Ben Sherman are collaborating with the team.
The latter will provide supporters with new ways to communicate with the team and each other. Team GB and Tokns have agreed to a deal that will begin before the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and last until the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
During that time, the United Kingdom will commemorate 125 years of participation in the Olympic Games.
“We are happy to collaborate with Tokns ahead of what is set to be a very different Games for our Olympians in Tokyo,” Team Great Britain Commercial Director Tim Ellerton stated in a press release.
We are thrilled that we can provide moments online for fans and collectors, especially after the declaration that there will be no fans or spectators present at the Games.”
The inaugural NFT collection from the United Kingdom will feature an NFT honouring gymnast Max Whitlock and his two gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
NFT digital wall murals will be combined with numerous real-world embellishments as part of Ben Sherman’s unique design. Each will include an authorized and one-of-a-kind encryption key.
Ben Mosley, the artist-in-residence for Team Great Britain, will provide additional insight. Throughout the Olympics, Mosley will create paintings that capture inspirational moments from the previous day’s games.
Mosley’s painting will be packed with the physical and experiential offers, coined, and auctioned off to the public, according to team GB.
Visit the Team GB Medal Moments Studio on Carnaby Street in Central London to be a part of the actual NFT art.
At the conclusion of the games, the photos taken there will be utilized to build a one-of-a-kind mural that will be digitally generated, minted, and auctioned to the highest bidder as an NFT.
