Former Disney boss, in partnership with Marvel and Star Wars, has formed a consortium to establish a web3 games publisher in the United Arab Emirates.
The recently established enterprise, known as “Galactic Entertainment Publishing,” functions as the primary division of the parent organization, Galactic Group.
PlanetQuest, the company’s inaugural undertaking, has been under construction since 2022. Loren Roosendaal, founder and CEO of PlanetQuest and Galactic Entertainment, told Cointelegraph that despite the game’s delayed release, it has amassed an enormous user base:
“More than 300,000 connected wallets are associated with PlanetQuest passport holders; of these, more than 200,000 contain one or more PlanetQuest NFTs.”
Franchise experience with AAA
Former Disney, Warner Bros., Activision-Blizzard, and Epic personnel comprise the PlanetQuest development team. Their prior professional experience encompasses a multitude of franchises, spanning from AAA video games to films, including “The Batman,” “Avengers,” and “Blade Runner,” as well as “Fortnite,” “Call of Duty,” and “Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.”
Jon McCoy, the firm’s chief creative officer, stated that his colleagues’ work with Galactic Group was incomparable to their career experiences working on AAA Hollywood blockbusters:
“Naturally no first attempt at something new is perfect, but it’s been amazing getting to create a sci-fi universe with the fans in a way that’s never been attempted before. I’ve gotten to fulfill a lot of my childhood dreams, working on Star Wars, Blade Runner and Marvel movies to name a few, but there’s little that compares to being able to interact and build with the fans from day one.”
About PlanetQuest
The initial offering from the company, PlanetQuest, has been characterized as taking place in a “Star Wars-like” universe replete with player-tradable assets.
As digital assets, players can allegedly steal everything from spacecraft to entire planets. They may then sell or trade these assets with other players in exchange for native currency.
Constraint media for PlanetQuest are reportedly in the works of Galactic, including comic books, novels, and an unnamed game, according to a VentureBeat report.
