Co-founder and former CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey donated to an El Salvador Bitcoin educational organization earlier today, marking his first act of crypto philanthropy.
Mi Primer Bitcoin, which translates to “My First Bitcoin,” is an initiative in El Salvador that provides free Bitcoin education. In light of the country’s recent efforts to adopt the leading cryptocurrency, the education initiative is significant in Central America.
One of Mi Primer Bitcoin’s node operators reportedly contacted Dorsey on Nostr to ask for money for the company, according to a tweet from the organization. The former CEO of Twitter contributed roughly $6,000 to the charity in a matter of minutes.
Jack Dorsey has openly backed Bitcoin and has been a strong advocate for decentralization. He has contributed to several ventures in the cryptocurrency sector and is well-known for his charity there.
Just last month, Dorsey gave Nostr a donation of over 14 BTC, or about $250,000. The funding for Mi Primer Bitcoin was organized using the decentralized messaging platform Nostr.
Jack Dorsey and well-known musician Jay-Z teamed up to start The Bitcoin Academy in June 2022. The initiative, which had its headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, aimed to inform the locals on how to become financially independent with a focus on Bitcoin.
In February 2021, the pair worked together on a Bitcoin Development Trust that was centered on the expansion of Bitcoin in Africa and India. Initially, Dorsey and Jay-z endowed the trust with 500 BTC.
