Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has left Bluesky’s board, the decentralized social media platform he conceived and funded he was Twitter’s CEO.
Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and former CEO of the company, has resigned from the board of Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform he founded and funded in 2019.
Bluesky wrote in a May 5 post on the platform that it was “searching for a new board member” and thanked Dorsey for funding and initiating the project, confirming his departure.
Dorsey had answered a direct “no” when a user on X asked several hours earlier whether he was still a member of Bluesky’s board. Neither Bluesky nor Dorsey explained his departure. Bluesky has not responded to a request for comment at this time.
In the interim, the early sponsor of Bluesky was occupied on X endorsing his grants for open interest protocols and referring to the social network, which is now owned by Elon Musk, as “freedom technology.”
The source is Jack Dorsey’s technology sector executive social activity monitoring X account. According to a post by Big Tech Alert, Dorsey had reduced his follow list from “well over 2000 people” to three individuals: Musk, Stella Assange, the spouse of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who is currently incarcerated, and Edward Snowden, an ex-NSA contractor who has since turned to whistleblowing.
The retention of Musk on Dorsey’s follower list and X’s endorsement indicate that the two individuals have reconciled. According to TechCrunch, in April of last year, Dorsey criticized Musk on Bluesky, stating that he was inadequately managing X and that the board should not have compelled the sale to him.
Late in 2019, while serving as CEO of Twitter, Dorsey declared the formation of Bluesky, stating that the company was ” “funding a small independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media.”
Bluesky’s beta phase did not commence until March 2023 and did not become public until February 7, 2024. It has approximately 5.6 million users, according to its statistics.
