XRP attorney John Deaton, who represents the 75,000 token holders in the Ripple vs SEC, has been awarded with the Defender of Freedom Award.
The Defender of Freedom Award has been presented to XRP attorney John Deaton, who represents over 50,000 token holders in Ripple vs. the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This follows the attorney’s recent claims of obtaining access to documents that demonstrate irregularities in the initial coin offering (ICO) of Ethereum.
John Deaton Honored
The International Congress of Blockchain Legal Advisors announced Deaton as the recipient of the inaugural Defender of Freedom Award. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond in their pursuit of freedom in the crypto community, the organization said in a statement. It elaborated further,
“Deaton’s visionary strategy enabled digital asset owners to intercede against SEC enforcement actions, a pioneering approach that served as a protective shield against the SEC’s overreaching tactics.”
The recognition follows the recent triumph in the XRP lawsuit with the Summary Judgment, in which U.S. District Court Judge Analisa Torres protected the position of retail buyers.
The ruling meant that the lengthy legal battle between the SEC and Ripple Labs paved the way for an effort to establish a clear regulatory framework in the United States.
Ripple Executives Meet With Legislators
Recently, a team of company executives led by the CEO of Ripple, Brad Garlinghouse, traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress to discuss proposed crypto legislation.
The development contrasts sharply with Ripple’s regulatory posture in the United States before and after the Summary Judgment was issued in July 2023.
