XRP lawyer John Deaton, vying for the U.S. Senate seat against Senator Elizabeth Warren, attended the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville today.
John Deaton, a prominent pro-XRP lawyer, delivered an impassioned speech at the 2024 Nashville Bitcoin Conference highlighting the potential of Bitcoin to disrupt traditional banking and financial systems, thereby electrifying the audience. His message resonated profoundly, underscoring the injustices many individuals endure under the current banking system and his personal experiences. Additionally, Deaton received backing from Bitcoin guru Jameson Lopp and other supporters during his Senate campaign.
John Deaton’s Speech at the Bitcoin Conference
John Deaton’s impoverished origins in Detroit, Michigan, were recounted in his opening statement: “Thank you, and it’s a pleasure to be here.” “In Highland Park, Detroit, one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the United States, I was born to a single mother who was receiving welfare and food stamps.”
Additionally, he described how the BTC white paper he read in December 2016 during the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville reminded him of his mother’s battles with predatory financial practices. He stated:
“I remember standing in line watching her debase herself because she couldn’t keep a minimum bank deposit, so she had to go to those check cashing stores. I saw her beg them, ‘Can you please take not 20% or 15%? We need that money for food.’”
Deaton’s narrative continued, emphasizing the potential of Bitcoin to eliminate such predatory fees. He stated, “During my college years, I would send money to my mother to assist with my two younger siblings.” I would pay her $100. It would be transmitted via Western Union. They would accept 12 or 15 euros.
Additionally, it was apparent that he was convinced of the transformative potential of Bitcoin. He disclosed his substantial financial commitment by investing more than 82% of his net worth in BTC. He stated, “I have recently informed the Federal Election Commission that Bitcoin comprises 82% of my net worth.”
Deaton’s speech at the Bitcoin Conference also deviated significantly into the political sphere. He criticized Senator Elizabeth Warren’s stance on the broader financial system and Bitcoin. Quoted by the XRP attorney:
“I’m going against Elizabeth Warren who wants to ban the self-custody of Bitcoin in the United States. She went on Meet the Press and told Chuck Todd that America is ready for a Federal Reserve-issued CBDC. George Orwell is rolling over in his grave, and I’m looking you in the face and telling you I’m gonna beat Elizabeth Warren.”
Bitcoin Maxi supports Deaton
The Bitcoin community swiftly supported Deaton’s candidacy. During the Bitcoin Conference, Jameson Lopp, a renowned Bitcoin maximalist, shared a photo with Deaton on X to demonstrate his backing. “I am honored to support John Deaton in his endeavor to unseat Liz Warren, a crony of the Big Bank.” “Lopp wrote.”
Additionally, in response to Lopp’s endorsement, Deaton issued a sharp critique of Warren’s political trajectory. The XRP attorney observed, “James, Elizabeth Warren pledged to visit Washington, D.C. 12 years ago to hold bankers accountable for their illicit activities and misdeeds.” Currently, the same bankers are responsible for composing her invoices. She embodies the essence of the events that transpired in Washington, D.C. She could not defeat them, so she decided to join them.
In the interim, Commonwealth Unity Fund, a crypto super Political Action Committee (PAC) that endorses Deaton, has organized support for his Republican primary. The PAC advertised the XRP advocate’s campaign for nearly $305,000 on Wednesday, July 24. It is crucial to mention that Ripple has provided the PAC with the preponderance of its funding, which amounts to $1 million.
