The world’s largest restaurant chain has applied for ten applications to sell virtual goods and beverages as downloadable media files containing non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The startup, which is based in Chicago, is planning to open a virtual restaurant that will sell both real and virtual goods.
According to one of the trademark filings, McDonald’s also aims to host other entertainment events in the metaverse, including concerts.
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, recently pushed McDonald’s to accept meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin, offering to eat a McDonald’s Happy Meal on television.
In the aftermath of the crypto meltdown in January, McDonald’s began teasing the cryptocurrency community.
