On December 18, Improbable, a provider of Metaverse technology, disclosed in a year-end statement the sale of The Multiplayer Group (MPG), its gaming venture, to Keywords Studios for a total consideration of £76.5 million ($97.1 million).
Co-founder and chief executive officer of Improbable, Herman Narula, referred to Keywords as “a business partner with similar values” and expressed his pleasure at MPG’s new chapter.
Prominent companies in the gaming industry, including Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, Zenimax, Epic Games, and 2K, are clients of Keywords.
“Nurturing and fostering ventures across Sports, Web3 and fashion is at the heart of our philosophy and allows us to realize lasting value.”
This transaction, according to Narula, is a component of its venture strategy for 2024. In 2019, Improbable acquired MPG for approximately £30 million.
In addition to its 2024 forecasts, Improbable asserts that the metaverse and Web3 are no longer “news of yesterday.”
Narula said:
He predicted that by 2024, the metaverse would “define the future of virtual events.” He further anticipated that more enterprises will adopt decentralized metaverse platforms in the coming year.
“The metaverse is poised for growth in 2024, fueled by the convergence of gaming, VR/XR, and Web3 technologies.”
Softbank-backed metaverse developer predictions that the gaming, Web3, and cryptocurrency industries will experience increased consolidation and restructuring in 2024, resulting in a “stronger, more resilient, and more cohesive startup ecosystem.”
Improbable collaborated with Major League Baseball in 2023 to develop a digital reality stadium where spectators could participate in games.
Improbable predicts increased physical-digital crossover experiences within the gaming industry and the expansion of generative artificial intelligence (AI) use cases in business and content creation.
The organization’s co-founder and chief operating officer, Peter Lipka, further stated that AI has transformed how businesses function and that he anticipates the appearance of 3D interactive objects generated by AI in 2024.
It is not just Improbable that foresees a significant year for Web3 and gaming. Two GameFi executives, Yat Siu and Johnson Yeh, stated in a recent interview that they anticipate a more substantial influx of users into Web3 through blockchain games in the coming year.
