The announcement represents a huge step toward NEAR’s concept of Web3, or a blockchain with a common layer.
At the ETHDenver conference and hackathon on March 2, NEAR, a blockchain platform aiming to democratize and simplify access to decentralized applications, declared that it is changing into the Blockchain Operating System (BOS).
This action represents a critical turning point in the evolution of Web3, as NEAR is the first blockchain to create a universal layer for exploring and discovering open web experiences.
Connecting Web2 and Web3
The internet has developed from its Web1 iteration, which was static and informational, to Web2, which is dynamic and interactive but also centralized and controlled by a small number of tech giants.
In order to be decentralized, user-owned, and powered by blockchain technology, Web3, the next development of the internet, is intended. The fragmentation of Web3 has, however, made it difficult for users and developers to traverse because each blockchain network is a silo, which has hindered its adoption.
The BOS provides a common layer for browsing and discovering open web experiences in an effort to close the gap between Web2 and Web3. Users will be able to transition between experiences created by other developers or on various chains while still having an experience that is comparable to using a single app.
On the other side, developers will benefit from the full composability of frontends, which will enhance their capacity to create and publish apps.
Alpha.near.org – A Gateway To The BOS
NEAR has launched alpha.near.org, the first preview of a gateway for developers to build on the Blockchain Operating System. Almost 1800 components of the composable, multichain frontend alpha.near.org are already operational. These elements will enable developers to enhance Web3 accessibility and user experiences.
FastAuth For Onboarding
NEAR has also released FastAuth, a tool for quick web-based BOS onboarding. FastAuth is simple for developers to manage and enhances usability and accessibility for a variety of end users. It is compatible with mobile devices, supports Pass Key, and may be activated without a cryptocurrency wallet.
