The proceeds from Orica’s NFT auction at the Malta AI & Blockchain Summit will be used to support education in the Ssese Islands, Uganda
A Significant Development in NFT
A significant development in the nonfungible token (NFT) arena is the growing number of social impact projects that leverage digital art to raise funds for charity causes. Orica, an ethical fundraising platform that supports artists and social impact organizations, or SIOs, in creating and selling NFTs, is one such endeavor harnessing technology for social good.
Orica announced its partnership with an NGO to dump NFTs on its platform and use the funds to build a school in Uganda during the Malta AI & Blockchain Summit, or AIBC Malta, on Thursday.

Orica to use NFT to build school in Uganda
The school is located in Uganda’s Lake Victoria, on the Ssese Islands, an archipelago of 84 islands. Bbanga Project is a humanitarian organization having NGO status in Uganda that was founded in Austria. This means that the Viennese charity and tax officials will scrutinize all receipts.
Orica creator Danial Nanaei said in a statement shared with Cointelegraph, “
“Seventy billion dollars of cryptocurrency moved through Malta after it became “Blockchain Island” so it doesn’t make sense that 4,400km away, Ssese Islands families struggle on less than a dollar a day. We decided to use the launch of our NFT platform at the Malta summit to start making positive change.”
Bbanga Project teamed up with Mellowmann, a German digital artist, to create a collection of Uganda-inspired NFTs. Dima Buterin, the so-called “grandfather” of Ethereum, is among Mellowmann’s collectors.
A Fairer World is the title of his latest Ssese Islands NFT collection on Orica, which was previewed by schoolchildren before putting up for sale. According to Nanaei, Bbanga Project intends to earn at least $6,815 (6,000 euros) and complete the construction of the children’s school on the remote island of Bugala.
In 2009, Nanaei and Sani Hayatbakhsh, the founder of Bbanga Project, met in a coffee in Vienna. Hayatbakhsh informed Nanaei that, despite the fact that the Uganda school’s main hall had been erected this year thanks to money from the City of Vienna, they were still short.
“Sales from the NFTs mean we’ll be able to finish the building,” Hayatbakhsh added. “An additional two hundred youngsters will have access to primary schooling.” “Of course, the children of the Bbanga Project were ecstatic to be a part of a technology launch and to witness a worldwide artist creating artwork specifically for them,” he continued.
Orica now has the A Fairer World NFT collection. In addition to generating funds, Orica seeks to raise awareness of a variety of significant social issues. Orica will launch Orica Projects later this year to make such artist-SIO NFT partnerships a normal practice on its platform.
