Safemoon hacker gives back $7.2 million in BNB The hacker who stole $9 million from Safemoon’s liquidity pool has returned most of the funds, but the token price remains unaffected.
Peckshield, a blockchain analysis firm, reported that the hacker sent back $7.2 million worth of BNB to Safemoon’s treasury wallet in two transactions on April 20.
The first transaction was 10,000 BNB ($3.4 million) and the second one was 11,804 BNB ($3.8 million).
Safemoon confirmed the news on April 19 and said that the hacker had previously tested the transfer with 100 BNB. The protocol said it agreed to let the hacker keep 20% of the stolen funds for the sake of its community and project.
It also said it would use the returned tokens to add liquidity to the Safemoon-BNB pool. However, some critics have slammed Safemoon for rewarding the hacker and downplaying the security breach.
The token price of Safemoon did not react to the news of the refund. The coin is trading at $0.000000006711, down 3.3% in the last 24 hours, according to CryptoSlate data.
