Sky Mavis co-founder Jeffrey Zirlin breaks down the reasons for gaming-focused network Ronin’s surge, highlighting how Web3 gaming continues to flourish.
The Ronin network recorded two million daily active users (DAU) on July 29. This propelled Ronin to the top of the day’s metrics, surpassing other active networks such as Tron and Solana, which had 1.8 million and 1.2 million, respectively.
Jeffrey Zirlin, the co-founder of Sky Mavis, the team responsible for Ronin, provided a statement to Cointelegraph explaining the reasons for the recent increase in activity and the process by which the network attained its most recent DAU milestone.
Zirlin underscored that distribution is paramount in Web3, where code is open-source. Ronin is the sole gaming blockchain that the co-founder of Sky Mavis believes has an army. This “hardcore community” was established in the past six years, coinciding with the launch of its popular play-to-earn (P2E) game, Axie Infinity, according to Zirlin.
He clarified that the recent increase in DAU resulted from a combination of factors. These include increased activities in Ronin-based games, such as the open-world survival crafting game Lumiterra and the player-versus-player (PVP) game Wildforest.
In addition, Zirlin observed that the most recent Chapter 2 update of the agricultural simulator game Pixels also contributed to the increase in users. Zirlin asserted that Pixels increased their daily active users (DAU) from 4,000 to 800,000 after transitioning from Polygon to Ronin in October 2023.
Finally, Zirlin stated that Axie Infinity is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity. According to the executive, the number of active addresses in the game increased from 12,000 in April to 60,000 in July.
Emphasizing the onboarding process for consumers
Zirlin clarified that Ronin prioritizes user acquisition and product launch, as opposed to other blockchains that concentrate on the “esoteric aspects” of blockchain. The executive stated that their approach has been to entice gamers and convert them into Web3 consumers and advocates. Zirlin stated:
“This has created a gaming-centric ecosystem where 50% of all Ronin users are totally new to Web3 technology while 80% were onboarded by a friend or family member.”
Zirlin declared that their team would leverage their current momentum until they establish themselves as the undisputed leaders in onboarding commonplace individuals.
