Solana developers have released a mainnet beta update, v1.17.31, to deal with the ongoing network congestion on the Solana blockchain.
Solana developers have released Mainnet beta update v1.17.31 to alleviate the ongoing network congestion on the Solana blockchain. The update was published on April 12; now, mainnet beta validators recommend it for general use after three days of testing.
Subsequent to the improvements incorporated in this patch, which address a portion of the persistent network congestion, v1.18 will encompass additional enhancements.
The current version will assist in resolving open interest leaps and network congestion issues. Important enhancements include the following:
- Show staked vs. non-staked packets sent down/throttled
- Quic: use smallvec to aggregate chunks, save 1 alloc per packet
- BankingStage Forwarding Filter
- Tighten the minimal streams per 100ms for staked node
- Treat super low staked as unstaked in streamer QOS
- Default staked client in LocalCluster
On Solana, delinquency pertains to validators that are not in use, whereas the percentage represents the overall stake allocated to offline validators. Therefore, validators are instructed to deploy the upgrades exclusively when the rate of inactive validator stakes on the network is below 5%.
In the midst of a memecoin mania and a surge in network activity, the Solana network experienced congestion issues for nearly a week, with a 75% transaction failure rate. As the remedy was being developed, one of Solana’s co-founders observed that the persistent network congestion issues were due to a bug, not a network problem.
Current network congestion issues have been ascribed by the Solana Foundation to many factors, such as an excessive demand for Solana block space and a postponement in deploying upgrades intended to address network-related concerns.
Austin Federa, the strategy director for the Solana Foundation, told reporters that while developers have been working nonstop to resolve the issue, network demand has surpassed their ability to do so promptly.
However, Solana developers have created a series of patches to address the persistent issue, the first of which was made available to developers earlier today.
