Arkham, a blockchain intelligence platform that deanonymizes entities on the network, has unveiled an interface that enumerates the largest cryptocurrency holdings of governments.
The United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany are “some of the largest countries” in terms of cryptocurrency holdings, according to Arkham, which announced the news on April 12.
Individuals can view the real-time balance and transaction history of cryptocurrencies governments hold via the new Arkham tracking application.
Arkham tracks 212,847 BTC worth approximately $15 billion at current prices, of which the U.S. government is the largest Bitcoin behemoth among all global states (data indicates that it held this amount at the time of writing).
The United States government also maintains approximately $200 million in significant stablecoins and cryptocurrencies, including Ether (ETH), USDC, and Tether, in addition to Bitcoin (BTC).
Second in rank, the United Kingdom government currently possesses 61,245 BTC, which Arkham estimates is worth approximately $4.5 billion. As of the time of writing, the German government possesses 49,858 BTC, equivalent to roughly $3.5 billion.
El Salvador’s government, which legalized Bitcoin as a tender for the first time in September 2021, retains a notably smaller quantity of BTC compared to other nations under the surveillance of Arkham.
According to the data, the Salvadoran government possesses 5,717 BTC, valued at $405 million at the time of writing.
Arkham’s disclosure of the leading governments’ Bitcoin holdings signifies a significant turning point in the transparency of cryptocurrency assets possessed by nation-states resembling whales.
