The Bundesliga, the German football league, has announced a two-year partnership with NFTs, joining a growing list of sports leagues that are heavily investing in the technology. NFT focuses on soccer Sorare and sports collections like Topps.
Famous soccer players such as Gerard Pique and Antonie Griemann have endorsed Sorare as a strategic investor because it has been optimistic for soccer on the NFT platform for the past few months with other commercial partnerships.
The platform has raised approximately $650 million in a Sequence B round of funding led by SoftBank, and it also includes a fantasy soccer game based on the Ethereum blockchain that allows other players to assemble a team by purchasing digital trading cards from soccer players.
These ERC 721 NFT digital tokens can be verified on the Ethereum blockchain. After 18 months of intensive NFT market research and analysis, Bundesliga Intercontinental has decided on a short-term deal that will allow them to observe and better understand the developing market.
During the NFT Sports Business Webinar, Bundesliga boss Robert Klein stated this.
Bundesliga updates its contract with Topps
By partnering with Sorare, the platform will sell the digital maps of Bundesliga players, and Klein believes that by the end of the two-year contract, more information will be available so that the association can explore the model in order to achieve the best possible commercial image.
In addition to the Sorare partnership, the Bundesliga has updated its physical collectibles contract with Topps. The recognized leader in sports memorabilia has entered the NFC and will be producing digital player cards all season long.
This isn’t the first time the NFT room and the sports world have teamed up like this. FC Barcelona and Manchester City announced a new partnership with the NFT marketplace, but the deal was later canceled.
