Web3 software technology company, ConsenSys, is launching the alpha version of its Linea zkEVM rollup network on the mainnet.
In offering zkEVM rollups on top of Ethereum, the Linea network enables developers to create blockchain applications with quicker transaction times and cheaper transaction costs. Joe Lubin, the CEO and creator of Consensys, said:
“Ethereum [layer 2 networks] are set to play a crucial role in making great advances in scalability and usability. Linea’s zkEVM is the catalyst we’ve been waiting for to empower developers to shape the future of decentralized applications and encourage the builder in everyone.”
The launch comes after a fruitful testnet period in which over 46 million transactions were made over three months by 5.5 million different wallets. Linea is already among the most active projects on Ethereum’s Goerli testnet, according to Consensys.
The alpha mainnet stage of Linea introduces an ecosystem of more than 100 protocols, partners, decentralized applications, and an enhanced user experience.
A new outer-proof scheme, a dynamic fee structure, and batch conflation are just a few of the key improvements brought about by the mainnet alpha release that will enable Linea to offer transaction costs up to 15 times lower than Ethereum’s base layer.
With its quick finality, capital-efficient bridge, and inherited Ethereum security, the launch is anticipated to lower developer friction and improve onboarding.
The Linea testnet will initially be accessible to participants in the project. It will then be accessible to the general public from July 17 to July 20 during the EthCC meeting.
Consensys unveiled the Linea Ecosystem Investment Alliance (EIA) in conjunction with the launch of the Linea Mainnet Alpha; this project, which has the support of over 30 top venture capital firms, aims to assist builders by offering cash and resources.
The MetaMask wallet from Consensys will also include Linea support. In the upcoming weeks, users can access Linea via MetaMask Portfolio and Metamaks’s Bridge, Swap, and Buy capabilities.
On July 18, the Linea team will also debut an NFT collection. One of the most well-known Ethereum development companies is Consensys. It offers several services, including enterprise Ethereum chain Quorum and the Infura gateway, in addition to the Linea network and its well-known Metamask wallet.
