Phantom issued an emergency update for its iOS wallet app after some users were locked out due to app resets, requiring them to use recovery phrases.
iOS Wallet Issues
Phantom, a crypto wallet provider, has released an emergency update for iOS users in response to reports that certain users have experienced app resets, which prevent them from accessing their wallets unless they recall their recovery phase.
Phantom acknowledged on November 14 that a small number of iOS users are experiencing app resets. He then advised those affected to reinstate their wallets using recovery phrases. “We are aware of this issue,” Phantom stated on X.
The team responsible for the Solana-based DeFi wallet has announced that they have implemented a new iOS app update to prevent any further users from being affected.
They expressed regret for the inconvenience, recommend the secure storage of seed phrases, and stated, “We are dedicated to ensuring that this does not occur in the future.”
There were numerous responses to the notice on X from users who claimed that their balances had been erased, they had been automatically logged out, or they had lost funds after downloading a recent Phantom update.
One user claimed, “I have lost my 983 SOL tickers, which costs $219.54. Could you please return them?” “I have recently misplaced my wallet, which contained $600K. This sum represents my life savings and assets. When will I receive my reimbursements?” An additional assertion was made.
Phantom was questioned by an additional user regarding the reason for the app’s overnight reset, which resulted in the removal of all wallets.
Ace, a crypto merchant, cautioned their 42,000 X followers against updating their Phantom wallets without saving their seed phrases. They also stated, “I am uncertain as to why they implemented such an unappealing update; however, it eliminates your wallet on iOS.”
“With the most recent update, Phantom is deleting people’s wallets, which will result in a significant number of tokens being burned by individuals who neglected to back up their keys,” stated another user.
The company is unable to provide much assistance to users who have lost their seed phrases due to the fact that it does not retain or have access to them, as it is a non-custodial wallet. Nevertheless, it recommended that the support team be contacted for further assistance.
It is not the first instance in which the Solana wallet has encountered trouble. In October, the wallet encountered a period of outage, resulting in some users observing inaccurate account balances.
Phantom announced at the time, “We are currently experiencing an uptime incident, and some services may be temporarily disrupted.” However, the situation was resolved a few hours later.
