General Catalyst, a venture capital firm, has led a 223 million (approximately 209 million euros) in Series B funding for European artificial intelligence (AI) defense company Helsing on Thursday, September 14.
The company emphasized its dedication to advancing artificial intelligence technology to protect democratic nations. In a statement, Helsing co-founder Gundbert Scherf said:
“We founded Helsing because we believe that AI will be essential so that democracies can continue to defend their values, Our recent traction shows that this belief is shared by governments and industry.”
Established in 2021, Helsing specializes in constructing AI-powered military solutions and components, catering to projects such as the upcoming NATO Eurofighter aircraft upgrade and the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) initiative.
Since OpenAI’s ChatGPT was released in November 2022, the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence has been compared to a competitive race.
A growing number of companies seek to provide governments and armed forces with AI-driven military technologies that are more efficient and cost-effective. Kratos Defence and Shield AI, situated in San Diego, are among these companies exploring the role of AI in warfare.
Artificial intelligence has expanded unprecedentedly in recent years and is being integrated into various industries. With the introduction of generative AI, natural language processing (NLP) systems have significantly improved their capabilities.
These models can generate human-like text, translate between languages, answer queries, and even compose original content.
On July 13, during a press conference, Hollywood actors verified they were going on strike due to using artificial intelligence to represent background actors.
Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence that can generate new content, such as text, images, or audio, based on given instructions. These tools are trained on vast quantities of existing data to develop such results.
