The Cardano Foundation and four partners unveil PRAGMA, a non-profit promoting open-source blockchain projects. It aims to foster collaboration and development in the blockchain community.
PRAGMA is a new not-for-profit organization established by the Cardano Foundation, Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe to promote open-source blockchain software initiatives. PRAGMA was announced in collaboration with these four organizations.
Renagh Moone, director of global communications, published a post announcing the launch. It was stated that PRAGMA’s official launch was signified by the signature of the association’s bylaws; the organization will place a premium on creating an environment where developers can collaborate and expand upon open-source technologies.
The partnership seeks to establish a sustainable and resilient ecosystem for Cardano and other blockchain networks by promoting a community-driven approach to software development.
Supporting existing open-source initiatives within the Cardano ecosystem and encouraging the development of new tools and technologies are the primary objectives of PRAGMA. It will implement a phased approach to the initiatives to accomplish this.
The initiative will begin with the Amaru undertaking. This endeavor entails the construction of a Cardano full node in Rust, enabling it to function completely interoperably with pre-existing Haskell nodes. Cardano places significant emphasis on interoperability, as evidenced by the launch of its W3C-compatible Identity Wallet in December 2023.
An additional pivotal undertaking is Aiken, a platform for smart contracts that aims to streamline and enhance the development of smart contracts on Cardano.
The industry source reports that in its second phase, PRAGMA intends to extend membership to a more extensive cohort of developers operating on the Cardano network, with the launch date set for 2025. The objective is to advance collaboration and innovation while fostering an inclusive and diverse software development environment.
Director of Engineering at the Cardano Foundation and PRAGMA Board Member Sebastian Bode stated that PRAGMA is an integral part of the foundation’s effort to make the blockchain a public infrastructure. He maintained that the PRAGMA team is united in pursuing the widespread adoption of blockchain technology.
According to Frederik Gregaard, the CEO of the Cardano Foundation, PRAGMA signifies a significant turning point in the progression of open-source development within the Cardano ecosystem. Gregaard conveyed the foundation’s dedication to fostering collaborative endeavors that contribute to the enhancement of the blockchain environment through the provision of varied and superior solutions.
The introduction of PRAGMA is anticipated to benefit Cardano’s development. Founder Charles Hoskinson has advocated for novel concepts that could enhance IOG’s long-term expansion objectives.
