Hardware wallet maker Ledger has officially launched its controversial “Recover” seed phrase backup service this week.
For consumers who require a secure seed backup, the solution offers a premium, optional subscription wallet recovery service, according to Guilleme.
Guilleme claims that during the initial release and any subsequent updates, Ledger users will still have the option to use the Recover service. Owners of Ledger Nano X Wallets can already test the invention, according to Guilleme. If the service is inactive, just be patient.
The solution’s source code is openly accessible, as the company’s CTO further stressed. In May 2023, a new invention called Ledger Recover was unveiled.
Members of the community raised concerns about the functionality claimed, particularly about restoring the seed phrase from a backup. Users worry that the maker will obtain private information required, among other things, for money transfers.
Later, Guilleme commented on a revision that would reinstate the seed phrase. According to him, users of the Ledger will now be able to store encrypted items on the device and permit software inside the wallet to view private keys. The seed phrase can then be created by combining these.
