MeWe will be the biggest decentralized social media platform when it uses Project Liberty’s protocol.
MeWe, a social network with 20 million members that cares about user privacy, has agreed to use a blockchain-based technology that aims to take control of social networks away from corporations and make them more like old-fashioned email.
MeWe said on Tuesday that it will use the Decentralized Social Network Protocol (DSNP) from Project Liberty. Frank McCourt, who used to own the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, created Project Liberty. DSNP is an open-source project that gives users more control over their data because it is not tied to a specific company.
Project Liberty wants to stop the mass collection of personal information over the internet and give people back control of their own information by using technologies like blockchains. MeWe, which has been called the “anti-Facebook,” doesn’t give advertisers information about its users. Instead, its website says, “Privacy is the foundation of online social experiences.” It said that because of this news, it is now the biggest decentralized social network.
In a press release from the company, McCourt said that DSNP opens up a new way forward for social media platforms like MeWe that want to give their users more control, more privacy, and a more real sharing experience.
