TRON DAO hosted the TRON Builder Tour at Columbia University on October 5, offering workshops and discussions for students and developers.
On October 5, TRON DAO was honored to host the TRON Builder Tour at Columbia University, in collaboration with Blockchain at Columbia and Boston University Blockchain. The TRON Builder Tour, which connects students, developers, and mentors, combines hands-on seminars with enriching discussions.
In the past, TRON DAO has successfully organized TRON Builder Tour events at prestigious institutions such as MIT, Cornell, Princeton, and Harvard, thereby nurturing deeper connections and advancing blockchain knowledge within academic communities.
TRON Builder Tour: Columbia Stop
On October 5, the TRON Builder Tour organized a hackathon at Columbia University, which was jointly hosted by Blockchain at Columbia and Boston University Blockchain. Over 120 students registered for the 12-hour event, all of whom were enthusiastic about developing the TRON blockchain.
Participants were drawn from esteemed institutions, including Harvard, Boston University, NYU, Berkeley, Columbia, the University of Waterloo, and Princeton. Long-standing developers and early builders in the TRON community traveled from various regions of the United States to assist students with their projects.
Dwayne Gordon, the founder of a TRON community initiative, Eder Teixeira, a TRON Super Representative, and Wes Jorgensen from Boston University Blockchain were among the mentors.
Their combined experience offered students invaluable guidance and insights, thereby corroborating TRON’s dedication to promoting innovation and education in the blockchain sector.
DeFi, Artistry, Integration, and Web3 were the four segments in which students developed decentralized applications (dApps) during the hackathon. The grand prize pool was divided among the top three initiatives from each track.
Regarding TRON DAO
TRON DAO is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that is community-governed and committed to expediting internet decentralization through blockchain technology and decentralized applications (dApps).
The TRON network, established by Justin Sun in September 2017, has continued to achieve remarkable accomplishments since the introduction of the MainNet in May 2018. Additionally, BitTorrent, a pioneer in decentralized Web3 services with more than 100 million monthly active users, was integrated in July 2018.
In the last few years, the TRON network has become extremely popular. According to TRONSCAN, the blockchain has over 263 million user accounts, over 8.6 billion transactions, and over $16 billion in total value locked (TVL) as of October 2024.
Furthermore, TRON has the largest circulating supply of USD Tether (USDT) stablecoin globally, surpassing USDT on Ethereum since April 2021. In December 2021, the TRON network achieved full decentralization and is currently a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) governed by the community. This represents the first time a major public blockchain has collaborated with a sovereign nation to develop its national blockchain infrastructure.
Most recently, in October 2022, TRON was designated as the national blockchain for the Commonwealth of Dominica. Additionally, seven existing TRON-based tokens – TRX, BTT, NFT, JST, USDD, USDT, TUSD – have been granted statutory status as authorized digital currency and medium of exchange in the country, in addition to the government’s endorsement to issue Dominica Coin (“DMC”), a blockchain-based fan token to assist in the promotion of Dominica’s global fanfares.
