Ubisoft has announced its first Web3 game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, launching on October 23.
The video game developer Ubisoft, which is based in France and is well known for its Tom Clancy series, Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry games, recently made an announcement on the release of its first game that incorporates Web3 technology.
Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles will launch on October 23 and be available on the Oasys layer-2 Home Verse, a blockchain-powered ecosystem for Web3 games. The game’s executive producer, Sylvain Loe-Mie, provided an explanation of how Web3 technology enhances the experience without overwhelming the user.
“Web3 technology enables players to own their in-game assets in a meaningful way […] This ownership creates a deeper connection with both their Champions and the overall experience.”
According to the description, the game is a tactical role-playing game (RPG) in which players compete against one another in player-versus-player (PvP) combat by putting together coalitions of champions. Team building, strategy, and warfare are the primary focuses of this game, which takes place in a realm of dark fantasy.
Seventy-five thousand distinct digital collectible champions are available for players to possess, trade, and employ in order to construct their teams for combat. Ubisoft’s upcoming Web3-augmented game will feature a “Forge” system that allows users to customize their existing champions to create new ones.
During the explanation, Loe-Mie stated that the Forge system “may face challenges,” such as the need to balance the system in order to guarantee that all constructed Champions continue to be fair and competitive.
“We are committed to fine-tuning these elements to deliver a seamless and rewarding experience for everyone.”
Ubisoft has already integrated alpha and beta testing into its debut in the Web3 gaming industry. We design these tests to gather player feedback and ensure the game’s mechanics are well-balanced.
However, relying on digital artifacts can be risky, as shown by previous Web3 games like Axie Infinity, where changes in market value caused economic instability. Loe-Mie noted that “market volatility and fluctuating demand” can have an effect on the entire system, and she stated that the primary focus is still on guaranteeing the game’s continued viability in the future.
“Our focus is on creating a sustainable game where digital collectibles enhance the experience rather than dictate it.”
The transition from Web2 gaming to Web3 gaming can be intimidating for individuals who are not aware of bitcoin wallets, as stated in research that was published by the industry and titled “The Future of Web3 Gaming is Competitive: Global Gaming Report 2024.
Through a partnership with the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) and the blockchain game data tracker PlayToEarn, Elympics was able to produce the study. The analysis revealed that over ten percent of the poll participants attributed their lack of blockchain game play to the complexity of cryptocurrency wallets.
