Officials plan to transfer former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried to a California prison near his parents, despite his lawyers’ appeal to keep him in New York.
Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of FTX, is allegedly being transported by officials from New York to a federal facility in California, which is close to his parents’ house.
According to a May 22 Wall Street Journal article, despite his attorneys’ demands to remain in the New York region while he files an appeal, Bankman-Fried may serve the majority of his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Mendota.
In March, a federal judge found SBF guilty of seven felonies and sentenced him to twenty-five years in jail.
Anankman-Fried was detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn in August 2023 after a judge canceled his bail prior to the trial.
As part of his notice to appeal his conviction and imprisonment, the former CEO of FTX asked to remain in Brooklyn prison following his sentencing hearing to “facilitate access to his appellate counsel.”
