Following an investigation, Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, was indicted, marking the first time an incumbent mayor had been charged while in office.
After being indicted on federal criminal charges, Eric Adams has defended his innocence, asserting that he will combat the charges with “every ounce of his spirit.”
According to a Sept. 25 report from The New York Times, which cites sources familiar with the matter, Adams’ indictment remains confidential, and the charges against him are uncertain.
He will probably appear in court on September 26, when the indictment will be unsealed, and the nature of his offenses will be disclosed.
Eric Adams Maintains His Innocence
Adams maintained his innocence in a statement to the New York Post, asserting that he would fight to prove his innocence.
Adams declared, “I was always aware that I would become a target if I stood up for New Yorkers, and I did.”
“If I am charged, I am innocent, and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.”
The charges were brought in November 2023 after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted an investigation into Adam’s electronic devices in connection with suspected unlawful donations from the Turkish government in 2021.
Adams, who was elected mayor in 2021, has been a strong advocate for cryptocurrency and Bitcoin for a long time. He received his first three paychecks in BTC and Ether and pledged to establish New York as the “center of the cryptocurrency industry.”
