Both the real world and the metaverse are places where music thrives. The metaverse, on the other hand, only enables artists to have a more intimate and immersive interaction with fans, frequently splitting revenues with them as opposed to record firms.

Independent musicians in particular can benefit from the metaverse’s ability to level the playing field. On the digital platform, creators may work together and connect with followers all around the world. The metaverse helps to eliminate the role of the record company as a middleman and build direct engagement with fans.

Having known that the metaverse is a home for music and artists alike, what then is a music concert in the metaverse and how does it happen?

Music concert in the Metaverse

A virtual concert is an event that takes place in the metaverse, or a virtual world, where a virtual avatar’s image is projected onto a stage inside of virtual reality and timed to previously recorded music.

The next phase in the growth of the music business is the hosting of virtual concerts inside the Metaverse. In 2020, the coronavirus compelled several artists to do virtual concerts instead of actual on-stage performances. Fans may enjoy their favorite performers in new and interesting ways at these performances.

Virtual beings in the Metaverse are no longer restricted by the confines of their physical bodies. By altering the surroundings in the virtual world, a musician may swiftly switch between clothing during a virtual performance or even build a new stage.

The distinction between reality and virtuality is becoming hazier every day as more individuals enter the Metaverse and more virtual pop stars emerge.

Streaming platforms such as YouTube and Facebook Live, in addition to other specialized services such as Song Kick and MelodyVR, are used to broadcast virtual concerts throughout the world.

These services enable musicians to perform and earn money, which is a win-win situation for everyone involved. The musicians perform in either a concert hall or a more private setting, such as their studio.

The popularity of virtual concerts in the metaverse is rising as without leaving their homes, fans may see their favorite artists play live. A virtual music concert is definitely one of the first applications of the metaverse that is already being tested.

Artists that have held music concerts in the Metaverse

Notable musicians who have performed music in the metaverse include:

  • Marshmello
  • Justin Bieber
  • Travis Scott
  • Ariana Grande
  • Post Malone
  • The weekend
  • Twenty One Pilots

Marshmello

In February 2019, the singer performed the first-ever metaverse concert in Fortnite. The concert attracted 10.7 million attendees, exceeding the previous record for the biggest in-game event, according to developer Epic Games.

Justin Bieber

As an avatar in his own virtual world, Justin Bieber gave his first-ever live performance on November 18, 2021.

The WaiverCam crew worked with Justin on the performance, helping to direct the action and include viewers on waverCam in real-time. Additionally, YouTube live-streamed the show.

Travis Scott

The Travis Scott Fortnite virtual concert, which took place in April 2020, attracted more than 12 million gamers.

During the course of the virtual performance in Fortnite, an asteroid collided with the earth, and a big version of Scott emerged from the explosion to play “Sicko Mode,” the number one hit that he had previously collaborated on with Drake.

The event also included underwater and space elements, resulting in a visually breathtaking experience.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande, a popular singer, was given the invitation to perform in Fortnite by the game’s developer, Epic Games. Grande’s concert lasted for many days.

Ariana Grande’s virtual performance was included in the main Fornite storyline by Epic Games, who also utilized it as a chance to create new worlds.

Her concert’s overarching concept and message complemented Season 7’s “Moment of Togetherness” well. During her performance, Ariana Grande’s enormous avatar engaged with each spectator by raising them into the air as she sang her popular song “7 Rings.”

Post Malone

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, singer-songwriter Post Malone teamed up with the video game series Pokemon to perform in a metaverse. The event occurred on February 27, 2021.

While performing, Malone may be seen, in line with the game’s concept, going to numerous areas in pursuit of various PokĆ©mon varieties.

A couple of Malone’s own songs, including “Psycho,” “Circles,” “Congratulations,” and a version of Hootie & The Blowfish’s 1994 single “Only Wanna Be with You,” were performed throughout the show. As he wanders through the vivid environments, a variety of pokemon may be spotted.

ā€Twenty One Pilots

On September 8, 2021, the virtual Concert Experience began. The American musical duo band Twenty One Pilots is the event’s sponsor. The performance was aired from September 17–20, 2021, after the pre-show ran from September 15–17, 2021.

The Scavenger Hunt, one of the two primary components of the event, ran from September 8 to September 19, 2021. The second activity was the platform-wide Metaverse event, which ran from September 10 to September 19, 2021.

The Weeknd

One of the first significant social media sites to take the risk with a virtual concert during the epidemic was TikTok.

The Weeknd played his hit song “Blinded By the Lights” in an animated rendition during his virtual performance, while virtual backup dancers danced the popular TikTok dance to the tune.

The theme of the song was reflected throughout the whole performance experience, from his sunglasses’ shine to the virtual neon sign background.

How to find and attend a music concert in the Metaverse

Anyone with a VR/AR device or computer that can access the metaverse has the ability to see their favorite musicians perform in a virtual environment where everyone is represented by their avatar.

In order to see their favorite bands play in the metaverse, fans must pay for tickets. When customers buy a ticket, they have access to the Virtual Concert in real time.

To attend a concert in the metaverse, you’ll generally need the following items:

  • An Avatar (your personal representation in the metaverse)
  • A browser or console
  • AR Glasses
  • Tactile gloves
  • An email to create an account with the metaverse
  • VR headset

A metaverse concert requires you to log into your account, locate the venue, participate in the event, and have fun.

Conclusion

There will be an increase in the number of concerts that are held virtually as the metaverse continues to enjoy growing popularity. This will slowly but surely assist to close the gap that exists between the real world and the virtual world of entertainment.
